Earlier this year, I completed a special commission for a very special couple living in Denver, CO, to honor their ten year wedding anniversary. I was so very excited to receive a call from Traci about her idea to surprise her husband Gunnar with a painting to celebrate their time together. You see, about 12 years ago, Gunnar contacted me about creating a unique personalized painting to use essentially as his marriage proposal to Traci. The painting’s subject matter was 2 poppies together, symbolizing their growing love for each other. It was all a great surprise event back then for Traci, as Gunnar even organized the proposal to happen at my painting studio with the message revealed in the painting, which was “revealed” in the studio…
Many years later it as was Traci’s turn to surprise her husband Gunnar. After a decade together, she wanted to honor their marriage with custom artwork. She contacted me in my Florida studio and we discussed the possible ideas for this new painting. I offered to create a time lapse video for them as well, not only to share the progress of how the painting developed, but also to use abstract imagery including metaphors to parallel how their relationship possibly has evolved over time.
I wanted to share a beautiful quote that Traci provided about the painting and the process of commissioning custom artwork:
