The Prayers for 2020 series was initially inspired in 2019 by a visit to the Clyfford Still museum in Denver, Colorado. Incredibly moved by Still's enormous paintings about light and ascension, she was inspired to create her own works based on capturing the positively expansive spiritual qualities of energy and light.
These works encompass an evolving series that explores the feelings of fear and uncertainty in 2020. A pandemic combined with violent and destructive riots, mixed up with understanding race and race relations, Laurie examines how art attempts to offer empathy through her own peace and understanding.
In the summer of 2020, Laurie was offered a solo exhibition at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin, FL. The curated show was comprised of works with definitive stories behind their chosen titles. Find out more how Laurie incorporates emotions, physical experiences and music lyrics into her large scale intuitive abstract paintings.
