I’d like to share a time lapse video of a painting I made back in 2009, which I titled “Shameless as an Ocean,” as an ode to the song by TVOTR called “Love Dog.” At the time I lived in Colorado. Today, I look back on this painting and have some marvel at the fact that I currently live in Florida right by the ocean, and being in an on the ocean is a huge part of my life. I wanted to revisit this painting and video as it reminded me of the person I was more than 10 years ago, but also sheds light on the person I am today. This painting reminds me that living one’s life in a shameless fashion can also lead to a special and certain kind of freedom. Maybe our art not only has some ability to give us that gift of being free, but it may also allow us to tell the future, even if we don’t realize it at the time. Maybe I should paint about the winning lottery numbers…
